HOPKINS COUNTY, KY (WAVE) - A Kentucky man is charged with 23 counts of animal cruelty.
Ricky McBride, 58, allegedly kept his 23 dogs in what was described as "unlivable" conditions.
According to Kentucky State Police, troopers went to McBride's home to search for a suspected meth lab when they discovered the dogs.
Hopkins County Attorney Todd P'Pool described the case, "It's one of the worst cases of animal cruelty that I've seen in my public career and they were malnourished, some of them had life threatening injuries."
Humane Society Director Charles Gentry said, "Toenails that were just so overgrown that it was causing the dog's paws to walk crooked. It was twisting the toes and even growing back into the paw."
The animals are expected to recover and are being treated at the Hopkins County Humane Society.
