Global titans like Volkswagen, Hershey, Whirlpool and hundreds of other companies are courting a key demographic for their support. Hi, this is Rudy Martin for Uncommon Wisdom Daily.

I often say that you have to pay attention to demographics, no matter what part of the world you?re in.

For instance, one of the key themes I?ve been telling my subscribers about is the growth of the middle class in emerging economies from Asia to Latin America. And these new members of the middle class have a lot of political and purchasing power.

But demographics also played a huge role in last week?s presidential election. President Obama won roughly 70% of the Hispanic vote throughout the country, and that was a big reason for his victory over Mitt Romney.

Overall, Hispanics made up just 2% of the electorate in 1980. That number grew to 7% in 2000, and 10% this year. And political pundits say Hispanics will become a more-important part of the equation in future elections.

So if Republicans don?t find a way to appeal to those voters, the party will have a very tough time reclaiming the executive branch of government.

My suggestion for the GOP would be to take a lesson from the corporate world. Global corporations are making a big push into Latin America ? in fact, right now, companies from 41 different countries are looking to set up major manufacturing facilities in Mexico.

They include the Italian tire maker Pirelli, and automakers such as Audi, Volkswagen, Honda, Nissan, Rolls Royce and Chrysler.

But it?s not just the auto industry that?s taking advantage of Latin America?s favorable economic conditions ? Whirlpool, Hershey and Ferrero are setting up shop there too. And the list goes on.

The bottom line is that there are real opportunities in the emerging markets, and Latin America in particular, both for business and for politicians.

I?m Rudy Martin for Uncommon Wisdom Daily. Thanks for watching.
